ABOUT THE ROUTE

This hike takes us beyond the well-known village of Lauterbrunnen to explore one of the most scenic and quiet parts of the valley. Starting from Stechelberg, the trail ascends steadily through lush meadows and beautiful forests, offering glimpses of cascading waterfalls and hanging glaciers.

Our destination is Hotel Obersteinberg, a traditional mountain inn at 1,800 meters, surrounded by snow-covered peaks and overlooking the impressive Schmadribachfall—a nearly 300-meter waterfall. We’ll take plenty of breaks for photos and snacks on the way up. Once we arrive, there’s time to relax, explore the area, or check out the hotel's working farm and local cheese production.

Dinner is homemade and shared in a communal dining room with fellow hikers, offering a simple and cozy mountain experience. The hotel has no electricity, so the atmosphere is lit by candles and kerosene lamps. Early risers can catch a mountain sunrise before enjoying a hearty breakfast. On day two, we’ll hike to the stunning Oberhornsee, a pristine alpine lake tucked deep in the mountains, before descending back to Stechelberg.

This adventure is perfect for active travelers looking to go beyond the ordinary and enjoy an overnight stay in a unique, unforgettable alpine setting.
