Alpine lake hike and picnic

Peaceful trails, breathtaking mountain panoramas, and a delicious Swiss-style alpine picnic by the crystal-clear waters of Suls Lake.

  • Distance: 8 km with 400 meter elevation gain.
    Hiking time: 5–6 hours
    Total trip duration: Approximately 8 hours.

  • Lauterbrunnen train station at 9 am.

    We’ll meet at Lauterbrunnen train station, hop on a short 15-minute bus ride to Isenfluh, then take a unique 5-minute gondola up to Sulwald — where the adventure begins!

    Start time can be adjusted depending on your preferences and weather conditions.

  • This hike is for individuals with a moderate level of fitness and hiking experience. You should feel comfortable walking for 4-5 hours on mountain trails, including some uphill and downhill sections, as well as uneven terrain.

  • Each tour includes a friendly, knowledgeable, and passionate local guide, a thoughtfully planned route. This hike includes a delicious picnic with local products.

  • Transportation

    Bus fare from Lauterbrunnen to Isenfluh (CHF 7.80)

    Gondola Isenfluh to Sulwald (CHF20 return)

    Optional – you can skip the gondola if you’re happy hiking a bit longer and gaining more elevation.

ABOUT THE ROUTE

On this adventure, we’ll enjoy the most amazing views over the Lauterbrunnen Valley, the Schynige Platte ridge, and the iconic trio of the Bernese Alps: the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. This peaceful and remote trail takes you through quiet forests, flower-filled alpine meadows, and past traditional mountain farms as we gradually ascend to the stunning and secluded Suls Lake.

This hike to Suls Lake and Lobhorn Hut begins with a scenic gondola ride from Isenfluh to Sulwald, a small alpine village above the Lauterbrunnen Valley. From Sulwald, we embark on an uphill trail through lush meadows and forests, with stunning views of the surrounding peaks, including the majestic Eiger and Mönch mountains. As we hike higher, the trail opens up and we will enjoy breathtaking views of the mountain scenery and the beautiful valley under us.

Once we get to the hidden and stunning Suls lake, we’ll enjoy a picnic with Swiss specialties surrounded by the most incredible snow covered peaks, and for those up for it, you’re welcome to take a refreshing swim. On the way back, we’ll pass the Lobhorn Hut, a great opportunity to see a traditional Swiss mountain hut up close.

This hike is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a moderate, scenic adventure that combines alpine tranquility, a stunning lake, and a unique picnic with local flavors.
