Hike beneath the renowed Eiger with incredible views of glaciers, cliffs, and the Grindelwald Valley.

  • Distance: 12 km with a descent of 1200 meter elevation (downhill hike)
    Hiking time: 3-4 hours
    Total trip duration: Approximately 6-7 hours

    This route can also be done in reverse, heading uphill instead, depending on your preference.


  • Grindelwald Terminal station at 9.45 am

    From there, we’ll take the Eiger Express gondola, a scenic ride up to Eigergletscher. At the top, we’ll begin our hike along the base of the Eiger North Face all the way down to Grindelwald.

  • This hike is for individuals with a moderate level of fitness. You should feel comfortable walking for 3-4 hours on mountain trails. This hike features a significant descent, and it can also be done in reverse, starting from Grindelwald and heading uphill to Eigergletscher.

ABOUT THE ROUTE

This route offers great mountain scenery, beautiful views to the Grindelwald Valley, and a taste of local Swiss specialties at a mountain lodge.

We will begin our journey in Grindelwald and take the gondola up to Eiger Glacier gondola station (2.320m), where we’ll start our descent along the renowned Eiger Trail, a well-maintained path that runs downhill next to the base of the iconic and beautiful Eiger North Face. As we make our way downhill, the trail offers stunning panoramas of the Grindelwald Valley, dramatic cliffs, beautiful mountain peaks, and alpine meadows scattered with wildflowers. We will take several breaks along the way to capture photos and share stories about the area.

Midway through the hike, we’ll stop at Alpiglen, a charming mountain lodge where we will enjoy a well-deserved break with a refreshing drink and a taste of local Swiss specialties. Think a delicious cheese platter with Swiss specialties, fresh bread, and local treats at an alpine lodge with incredible views…
